Eadestown gaa girls under 14 make great contest of the division 2 championship against Na Fianna

Eadestown girls under 14 were crowned 1st place in the group stages and went on to meet Carbury in the semi final. A home match for Eadestown on Saturday 23rd June, it proved a challenge for Eadestown to field 15 due to the holiday season and county player duties that day. But Eadestown secured a well deserved victory in a very exciting home match. It turned out to be the match of the year.

The girls then went on to face na fianna in the final on 14th July in a very hard and sun parched Hawkfield. The county board had changed the date from 7th July to 14th July and would not move despite our pleas and we were forced to play the final with only 14 players due to 6 of the panel being away on holiday. Eadestown had already beaten na fianna in the league but that was with a full panel we knew it would be difficult with only 14. It was a blistering hot day and na fianna got off to the better start despite some near misses from Eadestown early on. The Eadestown girls fought hard and contained score as best they could. Eadestown then settled and started to play to their potential and ended the first half only a few points behind. But na fianna had ample subs and the fresh legs took their toll early in the second half.

Going double numbers behind the Eadestown girls did not give in and brought the match back to within 2 goals by the final whistle. It proved an impossible ask for the girls but they can hold their heads high reaching a county final - and division 2 is certainly something up be proud of. It was a tough end given the circumstances but it was the most successful year we have had and we know we can beat any team in division 2 given a proper chance.

A note of thanks to the parents for their support to the coaches (Ollie Barbara Tony Pat Paul D and Paul B) for their dedication and commitment to the team and to the girls for their hard work great attitude and team spirit.

We ended the Under 14 season with a team day out to Zipit on 28th July - It was a great success and certainly brought the smiles back to players and coaches alike - we are ready now to take on the next challenge in the autumn leagues.
